Institute for Energy Technology CAEMG
Research activities of the Computational and Applied Electromagnetics Group (CAEMG) actively support industrial technology and product development in the area of electrical energy technology. CAEMG develops simulation algorithms and methods applicable in the existing industrial design systems for development and optimization of power- and distribution transformers, high voltage components (such as circuit breakers and gas insulated switchgears or GIS) and electrical machines and drives.
CAEMG has a strong simulation competence in the area of lightning impulse and switching electromagnetic transients in power system components (transformers and GIS). Furthermore, an extensive experience regarding 3-D transient coupled electromagnetic-mechanical (short-circuit withstand analyses) and electromagnetic-thermal (temperature rise analyses) simulations is available in this group.
CAEMG permanently verifies its developed simulation models and obtained results by measurements in own modern and well-equipped laboratory consisting of the following three sophisticated facilities:
- high voltage lightning impulse measurement system
- high voltage AC measurement system
- dynamic testing system for electrical machines and drives
