Motion analysis of an Induction MotorMotors and generators with MotorSolve
Fine tuning and design verification are common steps in machine design engineering. These usually constitute the pen-ultimate step before prototype development. Often, induction machines operate under magnetic saturation that analytic approximations are unable to account for easily. In addition, fine changes to machine dimensions may also be very difficult to model analytically. Hence, at this stage, FEA based analysis is usually the method of choice by machine engineers. A FEA based dynamical simulation option has been included in MotorSolve IM for this purpose. This application page provides some details of this analysis option along with some examples.
This is the most accurate of the four analysis options in MotorSolve IM. The trade-off for accuracy is computational speed, which, relative to the other analysis options, is the slowest. However, in order to give the user the option of generating FEA based results corresponding to coarse and refined models, a user defined parameter has been implemented in MotorSolve IM. Among other options in motion analysis, it is possible to view standard results such as torque, efficiency, current, voltage etc. as waveform, time-averaged, harmonic components etc. Some examples of results obtained using motion analysis using MotorSolve IM are shown below.

STEADY STATE PHASE FLUX LINKAGE
Consider the same motor mentioned above. Using Motorsolve IM, the bar conductor can be varied and results compared to with-a-click. In this example, the conductor area of the machine has been varied from 70 mm^2 to 107 mm^2. The torque variation is presented here.
