Motor Types

The first module of MotorSolve to be released supports brushless rotating electric machines such as:

  • Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) Motor
  • Surface Mounted Magnets
  • Spoke

The template database is intended to be easily expandable which ensure both present and future design needs can be addressed expeditiously. Please contact a sales representative to further discuss your needs.

Templates

MotorSolve's template-based format makes creating new designs from scratch in minutes effortless - just select a rotor and stator type then specify information such as:

  • Number of poles and slots - can be arbitrarily large
  • Stack length
  • Basis geometric dimensions of the magnets and teeth
  • Lamination, coil and magnet material
  • Temperature for each component
  • Skew angles

To illustrate and clarify the nature of each parameter, annotations appear on the model in the view area and a brief description is provided in the tool tip area at the bottom of the input panel.

Materials

An extensive database of consisting over one hundred lamination, permanent magnet and coil materials is included with MotorSolve. Material properties include:

  • Magnetic Permeability
  • Electric Conductivity
  • Core Loss
  • Mass Density

Automatic Coil Winding

The Automatic Coil Winding feature provides an alternative to the tedious work of entering coil layouts manually. Based on a complex algorithm which analyzes the electric motor under design, an optimal set of balanced coil windings is generated which are selectable verbatim or as a launching point for any user-specific layout.

MotorSolve also supports manual entry of coil configurations.

Design History and Summary

The design process is iterative and fluid, and to help reduce the burden of managing and tracking progress, MotorSolve automatically keeps a design history which saves the specifications and results for each design prototype created.

In assisting with the evaluation process, the Summary Compare feature highlights the difference in parameters between two or more electric motors.
