Infolytica announces the introduction of the discrete optimizer in OptiNet 2.0

Montréal, Québec, Canada – August 5, 2004 -- A new optimizer engine, which allows for the specification of discrete values for variables, has been added to the latest version of OptiNet. The discrete optimizer is unique as it is the only tool of its kind for optimizing a design based on electromagnetic or thermal discrete-valued variables – no other optimizer on the market has this capability. This new optimizer engine allows a user to mix both continuous and discrete-valued variables.

Like the current optimizer engine in OptiNet, the discrete optimizer uses the Evolutionary Strategy making it practical to find improvements to a device that is based on several variables and several constraints. Discrete-valued design optimization is necessary when some variables in the design can only have discrete values; for example, the number of turns in a winding.

A visit to the Discrete-valued design optimization: induction heating Gallery page will show an example of the results the discrete optimizer is capable of providing.
