Contact resistance in commutator and position-controlled switches

Montréal, Québec, Canada – April 8, 2004 -- In order to model the effects of the brush resistance during a dynamic simulation of an electrical machine, Infolytica has added a number of controls to the commutator and position-controlled switches. In the commutator switch, the resistance changes according to the area of brush contact. In the position-controlled switch, the resistance or conductance can be specified as an arbitrary function of position. The new controls provide a more accurate modeling of the dynamic simulation of electrical machines when there is non-negligible effect from the resistive components in the commutation.

These modifications to these switches was brought about by a request made to us by one of our major clients, providing further proof that Infolytica is always open to its customers' suggestions.
