Infolytica to turn up the heat

Montreal, Dec. 8, 2000: Infolytica Corporation is pleased to announce the upcoming release of its latest product, ThermNet. Our new simulation software, designed to solve thermal problems involving conduction, convection, and radiation, is scheduled for release in January, 2001. Similar to the look & feel of our other products - MagNet, ElecNet, and FullWave - ThermNet follows the same modeling principles and is fully programmable, as are all Infolytica products, through the use of its advanced scripting capabilities. On its own, ThermNet allows the user to describe 2D problems (XY and RZ) and to perform steady state and transient analyses. The real strength of ThermNet lies in its ability to interact with MagNet to solve loosely coupled problems, where the electromagnetic problem has an effect on the thermal problem and vice versa. Designed as a companion thermal analysis tool to MagNet's electromagnetic problem solving capabilities, ThermNet and MagNet are fully integrated. To learn more of what T ThermNet has to offer, please see the details below.

Details

  • A general-purpose, XML-based open format, material database that allows users to define temperature dependent material properties. (This database is shared amongst all Infolytica products).
  • Thermal boundary conditions:
    • Perfect insulators
    • Prescribed temperature
    • Convective and radiative heat loss to an environment at a specified temperature
    • Periodic boundary conditions
  • Solve options:
    • Static or transient thermal, either stand-alone or coupled to static or time-harmonic magnetic.
  • Ability to specify a heat source in each component to take into account non-magnetic phenomena.
  • Users are able to display the contour plot and/or shaded plot of the temperature profile, animate the transient temperature distributions, and view the heat flow with an arrow plot.
  • Users can specify different mesh control parameters for the magnetic and thermal problems. The magnetic and thermal meshes do not have to be the same.
  • Automatic mesh adaption and advanced meshing controls, a standard feature in all of Infolytica's products, are also in ThermNet.
  • Parameterization allows tolerancing, trend analysis, and optimization through scripting.

ThermNet can be used for applications such as induction heating, heating effects due to eddy current and core losses, and temperature dependent magnetic analysis.
