Mesh Layers feature introduced in MagNet 6.18, ElecNet 6.11, and ThermNet 1.9 releases

The latest releases of MagNet, ElecNet, and ThermNet now contain our newest feature, Mesh layers, a powerful mesh refinement technique. Mesh Layers, which makes every problem easier to set up and faster to solve, allows for anisotropic elements, which produce the best modeling of fields, prevents "bleeding" of mesh refinement into areas where it is not required, and involves much less setup work than competing techniques. Examples of its usefulness are quite evident when meshing skin depth regions of conductors and of air gaps. See the Gallery page below for information on how this new feature alone produced a 7X speed-up in solution time.

Nondestructive Testing Problems with Mesh Layer Feature
In this Gallery page example, our Mesh Layer feature is used to demonstrate how easy it is to generate fast & reliable results for your Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE/NDT) problems.

Similar to the Nondestructive Testing Problems with Mesh Layer Feature page listed above, the two other new additions to the Gallery section's NDT/NDE category also examine models based on WFNDEC's Eddy Current Benchmark Problem #2:

WFNDEC Benchmark #2 - Eddy Current Inspection of Inconel Pipe
This study involves the inspection of an Inconel pipe using an internal pancake coil situated with its axis perpendicular to the axis of the pipe. Small defects of various depths in the external wall of the pipe are scanned in the axial and circumferential directions. Defects are detected as a change in the impedance of the coil.

Optimization of NDT Sensor Probe
Using an arbitrary initial configuration of a model based on WFNDEC's Eddy Current Benchmark problem #2, OptiNet was used to determine the optimal coil geometry and frequency at which the inspection of a probe, and its suitability for detecting particular types of defects, should be performed. This page examines how OptiNet was able to improve the sensitivity of the probe by a factor of 3.
