Multiple degrees of freedom
With the release of MagNet 6.15, Infolytica has added Multiple Degrees of Freedom functionality to the Transient 2D/3D with Motion solvers, becoming the only Electromagnetics Design software company to support arbitrary motion. Here are a couple of examples of this great new addition:
MagLev Startup
This gallery page demonstrates a variation of the MagLev suspension system that implements the "Magnetic River" concept; it is based on repulsion forces from dynamically induced eddy currents. The idea is to use the same set of coils for both levitation and propulsion. In the motor example shown on this page, the coil structure is in a transverse flux configuration similar to that used in the prototype NASA MagLev for a shuttle launch system.
Arbitrary motion due to rotating magnets
Presented here is an example of a two-pole rotating drum consisting of two pairs of magnets with opposing radial magnetization directions. The drum is free to rotate, as well as move freely in the plane of rotation, influenced only by magnetic and gravitational forces.
Levitation with arbitrary motion
Here is an example of an aluminum plate that is 3 mm thick and positioned above two coils whose current is 180 degrees out of phase. The motion of the plate when the initial position is off center can be modeled using three degrees of freedom: translation along the x and y-axes and rotation about the z-axis.

Watch Stepper Motor
This Gallery example examines how Infolytica's Transient 3D with Motion solver is used to analyze the internal mechanics of a watch employing a stepper motor.
New import/export options for CAD packages
Several import/export options for native format CAD packages have now been added to MagNet, ElecNet, and ThermNet.
Contact resistance in commutator and position-controlled switches
A number of new controls have been added to our motion circuit components in MagNet 6.15.
SPEEDLink Assistant
SPEEDLink Assistant is Infolytica's new & improved easy-to-use wizard that imports data from a SPEED motor program file and then uses this data to build and solve a corresponding MagNet model. The wizard first reads and then translates the geometric, material, coils, and boundary condition data from the SPEED file.
SPEEDLink Assistant examples
This Gallery page displays various examples of the MagNet models that have been created using SPEEDLink Assistant.
