ThermNet 1.5 enters the 3rd dimension

Infolytica is pleased to announce that 3D stand-alone thermal and two-way electromagnetic-thermal coupled simulation capabilities are now available in ThermNet 1.5. Much like it's done in 2D simulations, the user may solve 3D thermal problems that involve conduction, convection and radiation. The simulation may be purely thermal or coupled to electromagnetics. The coupling consists of a two-way process, where at each step, the material properties are updated to take into account the temperature, and then the losses are re-calculated in order to find a new temperature profile. Steady state or transient thermal solutions can be coupled with static or time-harmonic electromagnetic solutions to solve a variety of problems. Listed below, under the Gallery heading, you will find links to two new examples. The first example demonstrates ThermNet's use with OptiNet, Infolytica's optimization software, and the second its 3D capabilities.

To get more information on ThermNet 1.5, please contact one of our sales representatives at 514-849-8752 or by email at info@infolytica.com.

MagNet 6.12, ElecNet 6.8, ThermNet 1.5, and OptiNet 1.0 releases

The latest versions are available for downloading from our Support site. Some of the enhancements that can be found in these releases are:

  • Improved 3D modeling and meshing
  • Most modeling operations are now 25% faster
  • Updated with the latest modeling engine to maintain compatibility with other CAD systems
  • Improvements in memory usage and solver speed with 3D devices
  • Thin structures (resistive surfaces and surface charge) in ElecNet

Note For a more comprehensive list of enhancements, please refer to the Readme file of each product.

Coil Size Optimization - induction heating

This Gallery page demonstrates how OptiNet is used with MagNet and ThermNet in a coupled electromagnetic-thermal simulation. The objective of this optimization is to find the inner radii of the coils in order to obtain a uniform temperature in the upper portion of a workpiece. This simulation is a transient thermal solution that, at each time step during the transient process, is coupled to a time-harmonic electromagnetic solution.

Induction hardening in 3D using surface impedance

This page shows an example of an induction heating simulation using ThermNet's 3D coupled electromagnetic-thermal solver. It also demonstrates the use of the "surface impedance" feature in order to increase solution speed.

Webinars

Please join us at our next scheduled webinar on July 9th, where you can evaluate and gain a different perspective of our products. Webinars are free web-based interactive seminars that are conducted online and in real-time. It is a convenient and effective way to get the information you need without taking time away from the office. Our list of topics keeps growing and now includes the following:

  • OptiNet - The shape of things to come
  • MagNet - The art of motor design
  • MagNet -The best solution for your electromagnetics design needs

The description for each of these topics is provided on our Webinars page.

Training courses

The next MagNet Training Course is scheduled for August 12 - 14, 2003. This course offers a fast way to become productive with one of the most powerful 2D and 3D software tools available for the Electromagnetics' designer.

This announcement is offered as a way to inform the Electromagnetic community of the many efforts Infolytica is making to provide state-of-the-art advances in this field.
