Prediction of Zero Sequence Currents in some Induction Motor Designs with the Aid of a Hybrid/Finite Element ModelIn this paper, we show that some anomalous field effects in the flux plots of induction motors occur due to asymmetries in the machine, and can result in zero sequence currents, especially during starting. These currents can lead to shaft currents and torques, as well as extraneous heating effects. The flux path is through the outer layers of the rotor magnetic circuit, depending upon the minimum reluctance path for the load conditions. In addition, if there are an odd number of rotor slots the field solution will not be symmetrical, except for a few positions of the rotor with respect to the stator. |
