Pole Shaping in Switched Relucatnce Motors

The Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) has attracted world-wide interest as a new industrial drive. The attractive features of this machine are its compactness and efficiency over a wide range of speed and load. As a result of many years of development by Professor Lawrenson and his colleagues at the Universities of Leeds and Nottingham in England, the motor with controller is now available as variable speed drive in the power range 5 - 22 hp. These motors have been shown to be physically smaller and more efficient than a variable speed induction drives of comparable rating currently on the market.
