Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Modeling: Finite Element and Analytical ApproachesImproved modeling techniques are presented for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs). The analytical model, which includes space harmonics, is based on the generalized machine theory. This model provides an accurate description of a PMSM, particularly at very low speeds. If space harmonics are ignored, the model reduces to the conventional d-q model. In addition, algorithms for finite element post-processing calculations are developed to improve torque and inductance calculation for a PMSM. The results from tests of a prototype PMSM are compared with those from the analytical and finite element models. |
