Particle Trajectory Calculations using Finite Element Electromagnetic Field Maps

We have developed a scheme whereby particle trajectories are calculated using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration and an interpolative look-up algorithm which tracks the particle across a finite element mesh. The program calculates 3D trajectories in 2D axisymmetric electrical and/or magnetic fields modeled up to fifth order as well as time-varying fields. We are currently integrating this particle tracking algorithm with an existing finite element CAD package which will enable a user to display particle trajectories as superpositions on a finite element mesh. A description of this technique and the results of the original application from it's integration with the CAD system.
