Knowledge Acquisition for Classical EM Machine Design Expert SystemsThe knowledge acquisition features of an expert system development tool should reflect the basic requirements of the domain. The inherent properties of Algebraic Constraint Systems are shown to be advantageous in developing intelligent electromagnetic machine design programs. However, additional features are required to advise the expert on weaknesses in the knowledge-base, and to handle qualitative design logic. CADACS is an expert system development tool for machine design that incorporates both constraint and rule-based reasoning. It also contains utilities for defining design strategy and for knowledge-base validation. The latter includes a technique to identify cyclic constraints and resolve them, and to locate inconsistent sets of equations. |
