The Interface Between Finite Element Methods and Machine DesignThere has been a rapid development in the use of finite element solution techniques over the past decade. The use of inexpensive interactive graphics on small dedicated computers now makes it possible to input finite elements models of high complexity, with very little effort in a very shot time. This means that the industrial engineer can now solve field problems routinely as part of the design process, and immediately evaluate the results using a post-processor. The paper describes the factors influencing the choice of a system. Examples are given of typical problems, both magnetic and thermal. |
