Contribution to the Design of MicromotorsIn a variety of industries but also in medical applications, there is a demand to have very small motors for special applications. These motors should have an outer diameter of a few mm or even smaller. The question is which physical principle is most suited for a given application and power range. Several motor configurations may be considered, some of them are feasible both as electrostatic and electromagnetic design, some of them are only feasible in one of both principles. In this paper a study will be presented on a switched relucatnce type motor. This conifguration is possible in both electrostatic and magnetostatic designs. In both approaches, and for different scales and excitations, the torque will be compared and the intersection points between electrostatic and the magnetostatic designs will be calculated. For field calculation, a 2D-CAD finite element package is used. |
