Computer Model Analysis of a 12-slot, 3-phase Brushless DC Motor

This paper discusses the development of a computer simulation and design package for 12-slot 2-phases DC brushless motors. The package is based on a motor currently being used for automotive applications powered by a 12 volt DC supply. The program allows the user to input stator and rotor dimensions and properties, as well as supply voltage, voltage drive type and phase advance angle, and outputs motor parameters and torque-speed performance characteristics. Evaluation of alternative designs is easily and quickly accomplished using the simulation design package.
