CAE Analysis Tools for Electrical Machine DesignIn this paper we show how a commercially available software package, Magnet may be tailored to suit the needs of an electrical machine designer. Attention is paid to the development of the interface between the iron and the winding layout, and the input of the program. The influence of the winding type on the input file is discussed. An automated procedure for generating the input data from data coming from a preliminary analytical study is shown. The extraction of such machine parameter, as magnetizing inductance, leakage inductance, resistance, etc., from the finite element solution is dealt with. The different approaches for torque calculations and their limitations, when used in a specific machine type analysis, are discussed. Permanent magnet motors, reluctance motors, universal motors and squirrel cage induction motors are taken as examples. For each motor type, specific torque evaluation systems are discussed. |
