Calculation of the No-Load and the Torque Speed Characteristic of Induction Motors Using Finite ElementsThis paper presents a method for determining the characteristics for an induction motor. A finite element approach is used for analyzing the field in the machine under several conditions, no-load, loaded and locked rotor. The macroscopic parameter of the system are extracted using integration. The magnetizing reactance is found from the no-load conditions by integrating the magnetic energy over the system. The torque of the machine is found from the losses in the rotor. The parameters of the equivalent circuit are derived using the apparent power input to the machine and the loses in the rotor conductors. No assumptions have to be made for the rotor current distribution in the individual bars. The resultant model is an accurate representation for an induction motor throughout its range of operation. |
