Arbitrary Motion due to rotating magnets Presented here is an example of a two-pole rotating drum consisting of two pairs of magnets with opposing radial magnetization directions. The drum is free to rotate, as well as move freely in the plane of rotation, influenced only by magnetic and gravitational forces. Categories: Levitators Products: MagNet Transient 2D with Motion |

Floating Ring: electromagnetic-thermal simulation For this analysis, we are using the same model that is described in the Floating Ring gallery page, except that in this case, MultiNet combines the Transient Thermal solver in ThermNet and the Transient with Motion solver in MagNet to solve the coupled electromagnetic-thermal problem. Levitation with arbitrary motion Here is an example of an aluminum plate that is 3 mm thick and positioned above two coils whose current is 180 degrees out of phase. The motion of the plate when the initial position is off center can be modeled using three degrees of freedom: translation along the x and y-axes and rotation about the z-axis. MagLev Startup This gallery page demonstrates a variation of the MagLev suspension system that implements the "Magnetic River" concept; it is based on repulsion forces from dynamically induced eddy currents. The idea is to use the same set of coils for both levitation and propulsion. In the motor example shown on this page, the coil structure is in a transverse flux configuration similar to that used in the prototype NASA MagLev for a shuttle launch system. Perforated Levitating Disk This page examines a disc that first jumps from its resting position, oscillates for a certain period until finally levitating at a specific height above a coil, which is using an AC current as its input source. Of the two animations that accompany this page, one shows the dynamic position of the levitating plate whilst the other demonstrates the current density of the plate through a few cycles. TEAM problem 28 - Levitating plate This example features the transient 2d with motion capabilities of MagNet by simulating the dynamic behavior of an aluminum plate. Animations show the plate begin to levitate after AC current is applied to the levitating coils, and the graphs compare the motion to experimental results.
