Overview of MotorSolve
MotorSolve is Infolytica's latest addition to our lineup of electromagnetics software packages. Leveraging nearly 30 years of electromagnetics experience has created the most powerful and intuitive package for design and analysis for rotating electric machines.
MotorSolve offers a new and enhanced user experience, a powerful geometry engine and windings editor, a simple results-driven post-processor and the capability to manage, compare and analyze multiple designs and generate reports with any combination of the dozens of graphs, values, plots and data that are available.

MotorSolve represents a new and forward way of looking at motor design and analysis. Within a single project, multiple designs can be created and stored. The history of the designs is maintained, multiple designs can be compared with each other, and the effects of incremental change can be easily seen across the without storing multiple files and tracking design changes externally.
Here in the design of a BLDC motor, we compare two designs. The differences are automatically highlighted.

The power and robustness of our parameterization engine is taken even further with MotorSolve. Even complicated motor geometries are easily specified simply by choosing the geometric paradigm and then updating the design parameters.
Simply choose the type of rotor and stator to be designed, complete the table of parameters to specify the geometry, select the materials, and in minutes, a complete design is ready to be analysed.
The parameter being edited is displayed on the model (in this case, the magnet gap angle). Geometry is updated in real time.

To keep pace with the rapidly expanding world of options open to motor designers, hundreds of materials have been added to our material libraries including magnetic steels and ceramic and rare earth permanent magnet materials.
Accurate and detailed material data, often complete with losses at appropriate frequencies, reduces time spent locating and inputting material curves. The curves are pre-validated to ensure solver performance and allow the comparison of common materials without undue effort by the designer.

The specification of windings is one of the most complicated tasks the motor engineer faces. MotorSolve incorporates an advanced automatic winding design tool (see details
here) that can automate the selection of the winding layout for even some of the most complex slot/pole combinations. Choose from the winding editor's precalculated layouts or create your own. Features include fractional slot pitches, lap/concentric windings, multiple parallel paths, single/dual layer windings and more. Winding factors and back EMF (with harmonics) are all easily calculated. Here we specify a winding layout for our BLDC machine. The 5/4 slot pitch is automatically selected for the 15-slot, 4-pole machine.

Because it is based on finite element technology, MotorSolve can provide details that other software packages cannot. While it possesses the same ease of use that users of other packages are used to, MotorSolve can deliver accurate and detailed results like the color plot of flux density shown here.
This plot will allow the designer to investigate the degree of saturation in the stator steel.

Once the design is specified, post-processing results are obtained simply by choosing the desired result. There is no need to set up the solution, parameterize the model or choose the appropriate solver--MotorSolve handles all of these details in the background and simply displays the desired information. Here we compare the air gap flux of two designs, one with bifurcated teeth (red curve) and one without (blue curve).

MotorSolve includes an integrate report generation feature which allows the inclusion of multiple results into a cohesive report without the use of any additional tools. The report can be printed or exported as a PDF document for easy sharing and review.
